Dear Friends:
Before I tell you about today’s podcast episode, I’m asking for prayers for my sister-in-law, Shannon. She has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer metastasized to the liver. She and my brother Scott have three children, the youngest of whom has special needs. Their trust in Jesus in the face of this diagnosis is nothing less than remarkable. Please join us in praying for complete healing.
The medical treatment for this cancer requires travel as well as special food and supplements—none of which are covered by their insurance. Since I’m not on social media, I’m sharing their GoFundMe link here, if you can donate. If you cannot donate, we covet your prayers.
Thank you—sincerely. :)
Now, onto today’s episode.
The stats on kids and body shame are staggering. Some studies suggest that 94% of teen girls and 64% of teen boys have been shamed for how their body looks.
As moms, we have a huge influence over how our kids see themselves and their bodies. Today, I welcome back to the show my friend and dietician Jane Curry Weber. She has been helping families for 25 years and she is here today to help us help our kids embody a healthy and God-honoring view of themselves and their bodies.
We discuss:
The difference between body shame and a healthy body image
How we can promote a healthy body image in our kids
How to address obesity with our kids
What to do if a child is trapped in body shame
What is on Jane’s To-DON’T list
Encouragement for moms trapped in body shame.
